“Everybody plays, we would like to win the game.
“When I make three substitutions, six substitutions – does it weaken the team, strengthen the team?
“Players who haven’t been enjoying, if they get the chance to play, will be busting a gut to perform in their high level and as well as they possibly can.”

McCarthy stated:”James and Scott will play.
“I’d love to find a performance from them that disturbs me considering I might need to play them for another match.
“Or that everyone else sees and they believe that they could play , if so-and-so’s not doing the company, then we’ve got other players who may come in and do a job as well, if not better.”
McCarthy has also disclosed his plans to include a number of the Republic of Ireland U21 players in squads that were the future – as long as it doesn’t hamper their campaign.

“I hope they get playing for their own teams. I hope if they do begin playing they give me that difficulty and this dilemma.
“If I was to play them and they weren’t to perform nicely, this question would be asked of me. I trust , Terry (Connor) and Robbie (Keane). We all know the best players, we know who should be playing.”
