Formula 1 officials state that they areclosely monitoring Typhoon Hagibis and its potential effect on the Japanese GP, together with modifications to the weekend timetable a possibility.
The typhoon is made to hit Japans east coast on Saturday and two Rugby World Cup matches that afternoon – England vs France and New Zealand vs Italy – have been cancelled since the nation braces itself for winds and rain.
Whens the Japanese GP on Sky?
Last practice and qualifying for the Japanese GP are expected to take place on Saturday at Suzuka, also F1 says its attempting tominimise disruption into the program amid concerns regarding the storm.
The FIA, Formula 1, Suzuka Circuit and the Japanese Automobile Federation are carefully monitoring Typhoon Hagibis and its potential impact on the 2019 FIA Formula 1 Japanese Grand Prix, an F1 statement .
Every effort is being made to minimise disruption to the Formula 1 timetable, however the safety of the fans, competitors and everybody else at the Suzuka Circuit remains the top priority.
All parties may continue to monitor the problem and supply further updates in due course
One potential alteration to this F1 timetable would be moving to Sunday before the race, although no provision has been set in the event of the typhoon causing disruption.
Qualifying has been postponed prior to the Sunday before in Japan because of typhoons, in 2010 and 2004.
Suzuka is farther south than Tokyo and Toyota – were due to happen, where the Rugby World Cup that is matches – but predictions predict poor weather on Saturday.
