Jadeveon Clowney, Gould not attending minicamp

Neither Jadeveon Clowney nor Robbie Gould have signed up their own franchise tags using their respective teams, and that is not the only thing they have in common.
Clowney and Gould will not attend the mandatory minicamps for the Houston Texans and San Francisco 49ers, respectively, NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported Monday.
The two offseason workouts are scheduled to kick off Tuesday, but don’t anticipate either player to be there.
Of both players to get the franchise tag in 2019, only Clowney, Gould and Falcons defensive tackle Grady Jarrett haven’t signed a long-term deal, after or without being traded. While Jarrett has signed his tag and plans to attend Atlanta’s compulsory work out, Clowney and Gould have different thoughts.

Clowney is aiming for a long deal in Houston, as are the Texans. Back in April, then-Texans general manager Brian Gaine reported that registering the Pro Bowl pass rusher to some long-term contract was”still the strategy.” The issue is now Gaine is no more in the construction, fired a week out of nowhere. It’s uncertain whether Houston’s interim GM Chris Olsen has the authority to strike a deal with Clowney while the Texans’ search for Gaine’s replacement continues.
The former first-overall pick already did not attend voluntary OTAs to produce a statement on the subject. Texans coach Bill O’Brien stated in May he does not have any idea when Clowney will go back to the team,”I have every belief and hope that JD is working on his own and getting ready for when he will decide to show up.”
Clowney is set to make approximately $15.97 million on the label, if and if he signs it. The deadline for the two sides to come to an agreement on a contract extension in July 15, approximately one month away and before the beginning of training camp.
Gould, on the other hand, doesn’t need a long-term solution together with San Francisco. In fact, he wants the chance to leave the 49ers and asked a trade ahead of the 2019 NFL Draft. The Niners have not acquiesced.
“We know that he doesn’t want to live here long term and he has made that clear to us, and we get that,” Niners coach Shanahan stated in April. “But, we have a franchise tag and he is that good of a kicker that he’s well worth franchising. So, unfortunately we understand we’re not planning to have him long-term here. I believe that has been pretty apparent. No hard feelings about that.”
The Niners won’t be moving into minicamp kicker-less; San Francisco also employs fourth-year booter Jon Brown.
The 37-year-old Gould is place to create $4.97 million on the label, but if he signs it plays for San Francisco at all in 2019 remains to be seen.
