Scotland ahead David Denton has been forced to retire on doctors’ advice.
The 29-year-old has been advised to stop.
“Of course, it is devastating my career is ending,” Denton told the Scottish Rugby Union website.
Scotland trainer Gregor Townsend said:”We’re going to miss him with Scotland.”
Zimbabwe-born Denton was capped 42 times for Scotland, this past year making the transfer before charms at Bath and Worcester Warriors prior to his switch to Leicester.
He hadn’t played since suffering the injury from Northampton 11 months ago.
“My response at the time my neurologist explained it was no more a good idea to play with rugby to be honest was a little aid,” said Denton.
“This had been building up inside of me four to five months.
“I knew there was a very strong possibility this instant [needing to retire] had been forthcoming.
“By the time I got into it, I had been through all the emotional highs and lows, and so that I was ready for it.”
Scotland head coach Townsend stated it”appears to be the ideal choice to retire”.
He explained:”We were hoping taking time out of this game would suggest that he would be available for selection in our World Cup training group and when that didn’t happen, we were optimistic he would be back for next year, but that’s not happened.”
