Scotland forwards David Denton was forced to retire from rugby on the advice of physicians.
The 29-year-old has been advised to stop.
“Of course, it’s devastating that my gaming career is ending,” Denton told the Scottish Rugby Union website.
Scotland coach Gregor Townsend stated:”We’re going to miss with Scotland.”
Zimbabwe-born Denton was capped 42 times for Scotland, last year, making the move to Edinburgh in 2010 before charms prior.
He hadn’t played since suffering the injury from Northampton 11 months ago.
“My response at the time my neurologist said it was no more a great idea to play rugby to be honest was a little relief,” said Denton.
“This was building up within me four to five months.
“I understood there was a very strong chance this instant [having to retire] had been forthcoming.
“By the time I got to it, I was through all the emotional highs and lows, so I was ready for this.”
Scotland head coach Townsend said it”seems to be the ideal decision to retire”.
He explained:”We were hoping taking some time out of this game would suggest that he would be available for selection in our World Cup training squad and if that didn’t occur, we were hopeful he’d be back for next year, but again that’s not occurred.”
