ATP Cup: Andy Murray uses protected ranking to ensure Great Britain a place

Amazing Britain will compete in January’s inaugural ATP Cup after Andy Murray’s late decision to enter.
Britain may not have qualified for the occasion had Murray not input beneath his world ranking of two.
Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and novak Djokovic will also be from the field for the tournament, which will be played across three Australian towns.
The draw takes place.
Three-time Grand Slam winner Murray stated in January that after fighting to recuperate from hip surgery, he planned to retire.
The Scot went on to come back to the court in time to feature at Wimbledon, where he finally played doubles with Serena Williams.
Murray missed out on coming to the US Open, opting to play in the Winston-Salem Open in which he lost from the first round to Tennys Sandgren.
The ATP Cup, which carries 750 rank points, is separate from the Davis Cup but might amalgamate with this championship after it’s revamped, in accordance with International Tennis Federation president David Haggerty.
