Have the Ravens found their Taysom Hill?
That’s what Baltimore is hoping after drafting quarterback Trace McSorley in the sixth round of the 2019 NFL Draft.
Besides his traditional position as Saints quarterback, Hill played tight end, wide receiver and running back. In addition, he joined the field goal block component along with punt and kickoff coverage.

McSorley was a player as a newcomer at Penn State — he ran for 30 scores and 1,697 yards and passed for 9,899 yards and 77 touchdowns. It’s easy to see why the Ravens wish to utilize him in different ways.
“You saw what the Saints have done down with their third quarterback,” Ravens coach John Harbaugh said in May, through ESPN. “That’s something we’ll have an opportunity to do, also, with Trace. He is going to be able to play exceptional teams as well. The more you can do. You need players with characters, and he’s a man that has a opportunity to have a huge role .”
While the comparisons to Hill are obvious, the Ravens are analyzing McSorley out in a position even Hill didn’t play in 2018 — punt returner. McSorley took reps returning punts within the previous several weeks in Ravens OTAs and minicamp practices.
“It’s something that’s a new challenge for me, something that I hadn’t really hadn’t ever done,” McSorley said, through the”The Lounge” podcast. “So it is just something interesting to be able to enter and learn and attempt to establish myself in another way that I could have the ability to have on the area and make an impact.
“It has been interesting. It’s had its ups and downs, obviously the first couple of times doing this, but it is going well. I’m looking forward to be able to come out and do anything I can, particularly in the special teams aspect for the team. I would like to prove myself ”
Whatever the Ravens do with McSorley, expect it to become untraditional. Second-year quarterback Lamar Jackson is the newcomer, but that does not mean the area won’t be seen by McSorley.
