Scotland forwards David Denton has been forced to retire on doctors’ advice.
The 29-year-old was advised to quit after a concussion he sustained playing Leicester Tigers in October.
“Obviously, it is devastating that my career is ending,” Denton told the Scottish Rugby Union site.
Scotland trainer Gregor Townsend said:”We’re going to miss him with Scotland.”
Zimbabwe-born Denton was restricted 42 times making the transfer to Edinburgh in 2010 before spells at Worcester and Bath Warriors prior this past year.
He hadn’t played since suffering the injury from Northampton 11 months ago.
“My response at the time my neurologist explained it was no longer a fantastic idea to play rugby to be fair was a little aid,” said Denton.
“This was building up inside of me for four to five months.
“I knew there was a strong chance this instant [having to retire] had been forthcoming.
“By the time I got to it, I was through all the highs and lows, so I was ready for this.”
Scotland head coach Townsend stated it”seems to be the ideal decision to retire”.
He explained:”We had been hoping taking some time from this match would mean he would be available for choice within our World Cup training group and if that didn’t happen, we were hopeful he’d return for next season, but again that’s not happened.”
David Warner suffered a torturous Ashes while Steve Smith won after the scandal over audiences.
