Scotland ahead David Denton was made to retire from rugby on doctors’ advice.
The 29-year-old has been advised to stop after a concussion he sustained playing with Leicester Tigers at October.
“Obviously, it is devastating my career is ending,” Denton told the Scottish Rugby Union website.
Scotland trainer Gregor Townsend said:”We are going to miss him with Scotland.”
Zimbabwe-born Denton was capped 42 times last year which makes the move to Edinburgh in 2010 before charms at Bath and Worcester Warriors prior.
He had not played since suffering the injury against Northampton 11 weeks ago.
“My response at the time my neurologist said it was no more a fantastic idea to play rugby to be honest was a bit of relief,” said Denton.
“This had been building up inside of me four to five months.
“I knew there was a very strong chance this instant [having to retire] had been forthcoming.
“From the time I got to it, I had been through all of the highs and lows, so that I was prepared for it.”
Scotland head coach Townsend said it”seems to be the ideal choice to retire”.
He said:”We were expecting taking some time out of this match would suggest that he’d be available for choice within our World Cup training squad and when that did not occur, we were optimistic he’d be back for next year, but again that’s not happened.”
